community outdoor recreation environment
Dewdney Elementary School’s Community Outdoor Recreation and Environment (CORE) program is designed to motivate children to engage in their natural surroundings through an adventure and discovery-based curriculum.
Our goal is to get kids outside discovering, inquiring, and learning. Research increasingly supports the health, engagement, socialization, and academic benefits of learning and interacting with the environment.
Whether it is worm-composting, hiking, puddle-jumping, exploring aboriginal herbs, building snow caves, examining ecosystems under a microscope, or gardening, children will have the opportunity to make connections between their outdoor experiences in the natural world and their classroom learning.
